The Foundations
This second C of the 7C’s of Why is all about the importance of clarity throughout your business. It is the clarity you and your team have that will create a journey that is not just clear but enjoyable, and capable of creating the exceptional and sustainable results you desire. I have already spoken about the importance of seeking clarity over the certainty of outcome and the retarding impact waiting for certainty of outcome can have. Paradoxically clarity will come from the certainty you have about your purpose. To gain that you need to create strong foundations, it is the foundations that will give you the clarity needed to grow a business of true worth.
The Foundations
I want you to embrace the following content and make it work for you. With the clarity that comes from strong foundations, you can achieve all you desire, providing you follow the rules and the rest of the tips and hints in this book. These rules are:
- Start with your ‘Why.’
- Stay true to your three circles
- Create a vivid vision
- Include your exit
- Build your business around clear values
- Create a differential
- Understand the power you have within (your mindset)
Every business starts with a great idea or a technical skill and sometimes a little of both. With a great idea and or a technical skill and a desire to create your own business, you can certainly achieve sometimes seemingly impossible results very quickly. The degree of success you experience will have much to do with how much time and effort you put into building the foundations.
I have a question for you, do you want to be one of many or one of a few? Do you want to be mediocre or exceptional? I’m cheating because I already know the answer to that, you would not be reading this material; you would not have joined the Rainmakers Club and you would not be embarking on this program if you just wanted to be mediocre. Starting a business and getting by is not that difficult. All you need is a technical skill that you can sell. It might be slightly more difficult than finding a job that utilises the same technical skill but nonetheless not that much of a challenge in reality.
The ultimate results are not that great either. Not when compared to what you can achieve if you put your mind to it if you commit to building a machine of a business, rather than a job for yourself. There is a huge clue in that comment ‘if you put your mind to it.’
Almost anyone can be mediocre and for people like us it sucks as much as coming second. Being exceptional and having a true cause is a significantly bigger challenge, but nothing worth having is easy to obtain, that my friend is a standard life lesson. Doing something exceptional is significantly more rewarding, fulfilling, remarkable and life-affirming. But this can only be the case if you have the buildings blocks in place. There will appear to be a lucky few who are able to make it happen with seemingly little effort.
When that is the case, rest assured they are more than likely just very good at hiding the significant work that is going on behind the scene and choose not to make a song and a dance about it. If that is not the case, then maybe they are the rare beast that just got lucky, but I doubt it.
For the rest of us, it is dammed hard work and requires that we have all the right building blocks in all the right places to build our machine. The question then becomes, do you have all the right building blocks in all the right places? Are you willing and able to take on new ideas and learning, to be open to feedback and rather than seeing it as an attack on your ability, put your ego aside and see it as a learning opportunity?
Although it is best to start your journey in a strong position with all the right components in all the right places, I would also add, if you are serious about your business it is never too late to start putting things right, even if you are well underway. It is true however to say the sooner you do this, the sooner you start the better. So let’s get started now, really I mean now!
To begin with, we should get you thinking about where you really are right now and where we need to get you to, as well as the best way for you right now to get to that destination. Reach out and share the answers to the key questions with me. I can then ensure you get the same guidance I was offered when I started out.
